Frequently Asked Questions
Nearly all of our classes are hands-on with more than 60% of the time dedicated to our students cooking themselves. On occasion, we will host some special food events and special guests that are demonstrations only, so read the description carefully for the event that you’re registering for.
Our cooking classes open to the public and are limited to 16 students per class, so that you can get the optimum experience in our kitchen. If you are coming with a friend, you will be cooking with them. When come solo, we will pair you with another student. On rare occasions, and when the numbers are low you might be cooking by yourself.</
All of our classes start with a short presentation of the rules of the kitchen, and the dishes you will prepare. After a short demonstration from our chef, you will work with your team mate to recreate the dishes. The class will alternate between demonstration and hands-on cooking, depending on the number of dishes prepared. Throughout the class, the chef will also teach you various techniques relevant to the dishes you are cooking, so that you can leave with skills you can use forever at home. As a group, your class will prepare the menu in its entirety; however, some of the components of the dishes will be prepared ahead by the chef if they require longer cooking or preparation times than the class allows for. Most classes end with the class sitting down as a group and eating the delicious dishes prepared by yourself. This is a time for sharing, connecting with your friends, and other class members, and asking as many questions as you’d like to our chef.
You do not need to bring anything; the kitchen at VIVE Cooking School is fully equipped with state of the art appliances and crockery, so that you can come and start cooking. Aprons, recipes, and food will also be provided to you. However, we strongly recommend that you wear comfortable closed-toed shoes as you will be standing for most of the night. We also have a coat rack and space on the benches for your bags and jackets.
Our working stations are designed for two people. So if you come with one friend, you will most definitely cook with them. If you are coming with more than one friend, we will do our best to put you together so you can all enjoy your time in the kitchen together.
Our classes are all about sharing the joy of cooking, and everybody is active at creating dishes they can share together at the end of the class. While you can limit your involvement in the cooking process, please note that anyone attending our class must purchase a ticket, therefore you will still need to purchase a ticket even if you don’t cook.

Our philosophy at VIVE is that cooking should be fun and uncomplicated, and anyone who loves food can cook. Some of our classes (and dishes) might seem too complicated to the amateur cook, but our chefs are experts in breaking down techniques, and walking you through each steps of a dish to make it accessible to you. It is all about building your confidence in the kitchen whilst having fun, and surprising yourself with what you can achieve.
Most of the time you will eat the food you prepare so you don’t have to eat before the class. You will never go home hungry!
You most certainly can bring your own favourite knives if you wish, however, you do not need to.
Yes, there are bathrooms located next to the cooking school.
We usually update our program 3 months in advance, however, new classes are being added nearly daily. Yes, we are. Whether it is for a team building, a birthday, a hens or bucks party or any other private cooking party you would like to host, we can cater for you and your guests, and help you create a memorable party. Please click here for more information.
You should carefully read the menu before booking your class. In some instances, we might be able to cater for specific food allergies, however, you will have to check with us prior to booking your class as it might not be possible at all.
- As a fully operational cooking school, VIVE utilises nuts, wheat, dairy, sugar and other raw natural ingredients and wholefoods on our premises every day. VIVE is aware of potential allergies to these foods and the severity of the reactions some individual may experience.
- In the interest of safety and the comfort of everybody attending our cooking classes, VIVE has a “General Public Allergy Policy”. This policy applies to all people entering the premises, whether you attend a general VIVE cooking class or a private event. Please see our General Public Allergy Policy page for more information and to fill in the indemnity form if needed prior to booking a class.
- VIVE reserves the right to refuse entry to a cooking class or a private event on the day (with no refund or class transfer available) if the student has a known allergy and hasn’t informed us prior to attending the class or hasn’t filled in the indemnity form.
We do run some classes that are gluten-free friendly. If you wish to attend one of our class, you should carefully read the menu before booking your class. In some instances, we might be able to adapt some of the dishes, however, you will have to check with us prior to booking your class as it might not be possible at all.
All adult classes are for 16 years and above. We permit children of 12 years old to 15 years old and at least 1.3m tall to safely reach our workbench, to attend our adult class so long as each child is accompanied by a responsible adult. Ratio 1 child: 1 adult. Please kindly inform us in the note section (no. of children & ages) when making the booking at the checkout page. For the safety of our students, we reserve the right to refuse entry if these conditions are not met.
We sometimes run child-specific classes during school holidays. The children must be able to reach the benchtops unassisted and without the aid of a stool. All junior classes are strictly for children aged 7 years old to 15 years old inclusive. We reserve the right to refuse entry to a child if we feel he/she is too small to attend the class without running the risk of injuring himself/herself.
The amount of recipes you make in a class will depend on the class. You can find a list of what you’ll be making on your chosen class page, under ‘Class details’.
We believe that cooking is mostly about feeling and getting to know what a dish should look and taste like. This is the reason why we do not actually give you the recipes during the class. However, the recipes do get emailed to you after the class. Please note that the recipes are being sent to the email address used to make the booking. Advise us upon arrival if you’d like the recipes be sent to a different email address.

Pre-paid gift cards are also regarded as payment. You can book online using your gift card code at checkout for payment. Please note that gift cards cannot be used to pay for private events. All gift cards are non-exchangeable, non-refundable and non-transferable. Please see our T&C’s here
You usually have three years to redeem your voucher from the date of purchase if you’ve purchased your gift card from 31 March 2018 onwards (this does not apply to credit note vouchers and promo vouchers or unless otherwise stated on the gift card). All of our gift cards will have an expiry date on them and that date will apply for any school credits remaining on a gift card. If your gift card has expired before you could redeem it, we can extend it by 6 months. Please note that we charge a $35 admin fee per voucher to be able to do this.
Our gift cards are not refundable or redeemable for cash.
If you lose your e-gift card, we can resend this to you. Please email us as soon as possible: info@vivecookingschool.theteamserver.com so that we can help you out.
We are located inside The Cannery building at 61-71 Mentmore Avenue, Rosebery NSW 2018. A boom-gate parking is available on site. It is free for 1 hour until 6pm and free after 6pm. There is also on-street parking limited at 2 hours during weekdays.
Yes, you can access The Cannery with the following buses: – Line 343. Nearest stop is Rothschild Av. Near Morley Av. – Lines 309 – 310 – M20. Nearest stop is Botany Rd near Hayes Rd. The nearest train stations are Mascot and Green Square.
